GORDON ANDREW MCKERROW. portfolio
I consider most of the work in this portfolio to be self portraiture in an expanded sense. When saying, 'in an expanded sense' I mean searching for modern and interesting ways of expressing the self thus not focusing on the traditional. I express myself emotionally and personally through my work. I am an artist very much concerned with concept. Throughout the portfolio please click on the images to receive a larger representation.

"Morris's connection to Duchamp was forged in the context of abstract expressionism, in which every mark produced by the painter was thought to be, before any other representational consideration, a registration of the artist's self, his emotional turmoil, his heroism in the face of anxiety."

Self Portraiture (Using My Feet To Draw)
'My White View'
This could be considered a personal work and in a sense a self portrait as this is the view from my bedroom window, of course a very personal space. The soundtack is taken from the introduction to the moving piece, symphony no.3 by Henryk Gorecki. I cut the introduction from the original piece and slowed it down. This cut is repeated three times throughout the film. It creates an ambient sound which may evoke emotional sensations on the viewer. The visual is a slow pan down and zoom out. This is a simple technique but I think it works quite well creating a hypnotic atmosphere.

Morris/Gormley Inspired Sculptures
This piece was inspired by Robert Morris's 'Imprints and Body Casts,' (1963-64). Each individual sculpture was made by squeezing it with force with my fist. I view this as a self portrait as it is an imprint made by me. I was interested in Anthony Gormley's work, 'Field' during this time as I liked the way he used a vast volume of figuritive sculptures to create an atmospheric space. I thought this idea would work well with this piece also so I proposed this to my tutors during my first year at the GSA.

'Nocturne in a Tube'
Slightly edited video footage of inside the Glasgow Underground. I messed about with a Chopin nocturne, slowing it down and splicing throughout. Decided to play it alongside this visual. The visual is also slowed down.
